TO THE FLUTTER-BY CYCLE

To see a monarch butterfly.

To stop and watch it land on a milkweed plant.

To approach and see the wing veins of a female.

To stare as she senses the leaf.

To lean nearer as she distends her abdomen underside her choice.

To time the duration while she holds her egg in the contact position.

To see her fly away for the rest of her life.

To rush for the certainty of finding this special delivery now.

To turn the plant leaf and examine that unique egg.

To think that an insect and I have the same vocation.
